Concept artwork of a spaceship graveyard hand-painted by Academy Award®-nominated special effects artist Derek Meddings during pre-production on Philip Kaufman's Star Trek: Planet of the Titans. Written by Chris Bryant and Allan Scott as the feature adaptation of Gene Roddenberry's classic series, the film was intended to center around the Enterprise's discovery of the home planet of the mythical Titans. In 1976, Bryant and Scott prepared a treatment that was rejected before they tried again in 1977, but Paramount Studios killed the project right before the release of Star Wars: A New Hope due to various reasons including a studio restructure and release of Star Wars. Ultimately, Planet of the Titans was not produced, making surviving materials from its development process extremely scarce.

This painting depicting two uniformed humanoids standing amidst the crash sites of several spaceships, rockets, and satellites is rendered, dated "77," and signed on heavyweight paper by Meddings, who later went on to create groundbreaking effects for such films as Batman, Superman, and GoldenEye, among many others. Meddings techniques around model miniatures became industry standards by the 1970s. GoldenEye was the last film he worked on before his death. Also included is a brass plaque engraved "Star Trek II: Planet of the Titans." The paper exhibits uneven tearing around its edges and several scuff marks and scratches from handling.
