Admiral James T. Kirk's (William Shatner) civilian shirt from Leonard Nimoy's Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home. Kirk first donned his shirt when he met with Starfleet Commander Admiral Morrow (Robert Hooks) to ask for the USS Enterprise to be recommissioned, and later when he and his loyal crew donned civilian costumes while stealing the ship from Spacedock to seek out Spock's (Nimoy) katra. He later wore his shirt of a similar design in The Voyage Home.
As Morrow declined his plea, Kirk's civilian shirt came to represent his sense of accountability for Spock's death. Kirk's shirt and civilian ensemble were designed by renowned costumier Robert Fletcher, who in 2005 received the Costume Designers Guild's Career Achievement Award® for his work on the Stark Trek franchise.
This custom, futuristic lycra blend long-sleeve shirt features a mandarin-style collar with a button closure, a button-up stirrup on the hem, striped cuffs with fastening strip closures, and a Western Costume Co. tag on the interior numbered "2878 I" and labeled for "William Shatner," "Colar [sic] 16," chest size "42," and sleeve length "3I." It shows evidence of minor wear, including discoloration, consistent with on-set use, handling, and age.
