A hand-painted Lieutenant Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) Barbie doll created for a charity event hosted by Paramount in 1996 to promote Louis J. Horvitz's Star Trek: 30 Years and Beyond. Mattel's Vice President of Barbie Product Design Robert Best designed two Barbies in Uhura's likeness for the event, the other of which went directly to Nichols.

Among the most influential characters in television, communications officer Nyota Uhura has been cited as an inspiration to such historical figures as Dr. Martin Luther King, Dr. Mae Jamison, and President Barack Obama. Mattel later released an Uhura Barbie to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Star Trek franchise, across which she appeared in multiple series and films.

This hand-painted doll is dressed with gold-color earrings, a red and gold-color detailed fabric Starfleet tunic, mesh leggings, and black knee-high boots with a communicator in one hand and a tricorder strapped to her neck. Also included is an original Mattel shipping box hand-marked "Barbie 2 of 2." The box exhibits yellowing and some punctures, while the doll exhibits staining on its boots. Dimensions: (boxed) 17" x 12" x 4.25" (43.25 cm x 30.5 cm x 11 cm)
