A clapperboard used in the production of the comic book action-adventure ‘Spiderman 2’. Having given up the superhero life to try and focus on his day jobs and college career, Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is called back to duty to fight Dr Otto Octavius (Alfred Molina), who after a tragic failed nuclear fusion experiment becomes the nefarious Doctor Octopus.
One of the most iconic and memorable aspects of the movie making industry has to be the clapperboard. For decades this has been a vital piece of equipment that enables not just sound and image to be synchronised, but to also advise the viewer of the raw footage the exact details of the upcoming shot. The simple monochromatic device has become a symbolic image synonymous with films, and is still used to this day.

Used in the shooting of visual effects shots for use in the film, the slate has the movie title printed in the middle and “John Dykstra” the VFX director printed underneath along with “Tim Angulo”, who was the Director of Photography on the film. There are spaces for the scene, take, VFX shot number and lens used to be noted in pen as well as the date at the bottom, with the last date marked as the 15th of June. The clapper sticks remain loose and in a good, functioning state, with magnets present to hold the sticks in place when closed.

Well used on the production, the clapperboard is presented in a stunning display featuring a laser-cut mount board the film’s logo and a description of the item, as well as an opening front panel allowing direct access to the piece.
