Spider-Man's (Tobey Maguire) costume from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3. Peter Parker donned his signature red-and-blue suit to confront both personal and physical challenges, from his existential crisis and loss of powers in Spider-Man 2 to battling a new wave of enemies in Spider-Man 3, including the remorseful Sandman (Thomas Haden Church), the vengeful Venom (Topher Grace), and the conflicted New Goblin (James Franco), formerly Parker's best friend, Harry Osborn.
Widely regarded as one of the greatest superhero films ever made, Spider-Man 2 garnered both critical and fan acclaim for its emotional depth, innovative visual effects, and dynamic action sequences. The film cemented Maguire's portrayal of Peter Parker as a definitive take on the character and introduced refined upgrades to Spider-Man's costume design. Spider-Man 3, which brought the symbiote saga to the screen and marked the long-awaited cinematic debut of Venom, grossed over $890 million worldwide, making it the third highest-grossing film of 2007.
This costume was used during the production of both films and is believed to have been heavily used on the set. It represents the first film-used Tobey Maguire Spider-Man suit ever offered at auction by Propstore and stands as a rare and highly desirable piece from the definitive live-action Spider-Man trilogy. As an emblem of one of the most beloved superhero portrayals, it embodies the technical innovation and visual legacy of Sam Raimi's groundbreaking franchise.
Created by Frontline Design under the supervision of Academy Award-winning costume designer James Acheson, this version of Spider-Man's costume reflected refinements made for Spider-Man 2, including darker blue fabric, a more streamlined muscle silhouette, slightly reduced eye lenses, and an enlarged chest emblem. The suit consists of a red and dark blue one-piece stretch spandex bodysuit with integrated boots. The interior lining is gusseted and marked "3.S," a wardrobe notation that links it to the production use of Spider-Man 3. Zippers are discreetly positioned along the sides and lower back for entry.
The suit is adorned throughout with very thin strands of dimensional gray foam latex webbing and red latex spider emblems applied to the chest and back. Certain damaged sections have been restored using urethane web replicas cast from original molds.
Beneath the spandex mask is a lightweight internal plastic helmet shell, lined with soft foam padding around the nose and jawline fitted to the performer's face. This understructure gives the head its form and allows for limited jaw movement via a cut mesh panel integrated along the lower jaw. The helmet features two sets of swappable eye lenses, made of metallic-black-painted resin trim with acrylic exteriors and mesh interiors. The lenses are marked "6.20" and "10.12 A," and affix to the mask via prongs and internal magnets, allowing them to remain securely in place during wear.
The costume is displayed on a custom-made mannequin, proportional to fit the suit properly, outfitted with a production-made mesh spandex and foam muscle undersuit labeled for Tobey Maguire. Several of the original muscle components had degraded or gone missing over time and were carefully replaced using newly cast pieces derived from original molds to preserve the original silhouette and proportions.
The foam latex webbing is notoriously fragile and prone to cracking, even during production, exhibiting significant age-related deterioration. Additional restoration work could be undertaken, but care has been taken not to overstretch the webbing during display, and the suit presents impressively as-is.
