A gladiatorial helmet used in the acclaimed Starz TV series Spartacus: Blood And Sand. The first season of the show delves into the past of the Greek soldier-turned-slave Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) as he goes from pariah to hero of the Capuan arena in the ludus of the Batiatus (John Hannah), and the ludus’ eventual downfall at Spartacus’ hands.
This helmet can be seen in episode eleven, “Old Wounds”, being used by the famed gladiator Pericles (Thomas Kiwi), a gladiator described as being belched from the bowels of Pompeii itself, as he fights Crixus (Manu Bennett), the former champion of Capua.

The helmet is made of fibreglass with a paint finish made to replicate the look of worn leather and bronze. The helmet is detailed with serpent-like lines running across the crown and a face on the forehead, as well as faux-piping around the helmet’s edges and faux-stitches either side of its fearsome plume which contains black and white feathers across its length. An internal liner with a leather chinstrap ensures a secure fit to the wearer. The whole helmet has been intentionally distressed to give it the appearance of a helmet well-used in the arena.

The helmet remains in an excellent production-used condition with only minor wear from its time spent on the production and storage, and comes beautifully displayed on a battery-operated light-up display base featuring the show’s title in red and white. The imposing display measures 56cm (22”) in height.
