A gladiatorial helmet used in the acclaimed Starz TV series Spartacus: Blood And Sand. The first season of the show delves into the past of the Thracian soldier-turned-slave Spartacus (Andy Whitfield) as he goes from pariah to hero of the Capuan arena in the ludus of the Batiatus (John Hannah), and the ludus’ eventual downfall at Spartacus’ hands.
This helmet can be seen in episode one, “The Red Serpent”, being worn by one of the three additional gladiators sent out to fight Spartacus as part of his punishment for causing a mutiny during Claudius Glaber’s (Craig Parker) campaigns. Carrying a large battle axe, the gladiator manages to knock Spartacus to the floor, only for the Thracian to rise up and kill them all at the last moment!

The helmet is made of vinyl and fibreglass with a paint finish made to replicate the look of worn bronze. Made with a large crown and a fixed faceplate, the helmet has a large rim to protect from blows to the neck region, is marked “Andy Sector” on the inside of the faceplate and still retains its internal lining for comfortable wear within the arena. The whole helmet has been intentionally distressed to give it the appearance of a helmet well-used in the arena, with additional bloodspots on the rim and crown from the fighter’s brutal slaying.

The helmet remains in an excellent production-used condition with only minor wear from its time spent on the production and storage, and comes beautifully displayed on a battery-operated light-up display base featuring the show’s title in red and white. The imposing display measures approximately 60cm (23.5”) in height.
