A model miniature of the face of the Mega Maid from Mel Brooks' Spaceballs. Mega Maid - the transformed version of spaceship Spaceball I - was used to suck the air out of planet Druidia's atmosphere.

Spaceballs' special and model miniature effects were spearheaded by Apogee Inc., whose founder John Dykstra was a previous employee of renowned effects studio Industrial Light & Magic (ILM). Under Apogee, Syd Dutton and Bill Taylor - protegees of the legendary Hollywood matte painter Albert Whitlock and renowned matte effects artists in their own right - created matte painting effects with their studio Illusion Arts for the film.

This Mega Maid face originated from the collection of Illusion Arts matte photographer Mark Sawicki, who worked with Dutton and Taylor on the film's matte effects. It is constructed from fiberglass and hand-painted to resemble paneled metal with red eyes. The brow and neck of the miniature are finished with darker gray for shots in which the face needed to appear covered in shadow. A red wire across the back allows for hanging. The miniature exhibits paint chipping throughout, most prominently on the brow and lower right jaw. Dimensions: 10" x 6" x 12" (25.5 cm x 15.25 cm x 30.5 cm)
