Poster artwork hand-drawn by Michael Hobson for Mel Brooks' Spaceballs. Hobson created preliminary pencil artwork to plan the layout of the film's theatrical poster before John Alvin painted the artwork seen on the finished poster.

The poster lampooned Star Wars poster artwork, particularly Tom Chantrell's Style C poster, with the cast in dramatic poses with colorful beams of light emitting into space.

This lot consists of a detailed pencil drawing of the main cast above the title logo with handwritten annotations reading "gold" and "90% - PMT 50% Half-Tone." The artwork differs slightly from the final poster, with Barf's (John Candy) ears lowered slightly (nearby arrows point upward, seemingly asking for this change to be made) and, most notably, Dot Matrix (Lorene Yarnell) present on the pencil artwork but not the final painted artwork. It exhibits yellowing and edge wear from use and age. Dimensions: 19" x 24" (48.5 cm x 61 cm)
