An original production drawing of Tasmanian Devil (Taz) from the Warner Bros. live-action animated film Space Jam, created during the animation process for one of the most ambitious hybrid features of the 1990s.
Now, nearly 30 years since the film's release, original artwork from Space Jam stands as a compelling snapshot of Warner Bros. legacy animation and a tangible connection to the film that brought Looney Tunes to a new generation (with some help from Michael Jordan).
Although the film's final animation was digitally coloured using CAPS (Computer Animation Production System), the character animation was still traditionally hand-drawn on paper. Each movement began with the animator's pencil, making surviving production drawings such as this, important relics of the traditional craft that underpinned the transition into the digital age.
Taz is depicted here in a classic full-body pose, eyes open, connecting with the viewer with mops in hand, brimming with the character's signature explosive energy. This particular drawing is marked "T-16" in graphite and features a Warner Bros. Art Programme seal. The artwork comes in its original Warner Bros. Studio Store matting with the embossed Space Jam metal plaque. Dimensions (mounted): 45 cm x 56 cm (17.75" x 22")
