A light-up remote-control R5-PHT droid from Ron Howard's Solo: A Star Wars Story. The Imperial astromech droid R5-PHT was seen at the Coronet Spaceport on Corellia, just after Han (Alden Ehrenreich) was separated from Qi'ra (Emilia Clarke). The droid was later recreated as an action figure as part of the Star Wars: Droid Factory toy set.
Constructed by Glynn Turner, the droid was originally going to feature an R2-style dome, but an existing R5 dome was used instead, spray-painted to match the body. During the time that directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were on the project, the scene involved Han running into the droid, causing it to project an Imperial Army recruitment hologram (boot scuff marks remain on the droid's middle foot). It then moved to the left of the recruitment area as Han talked with the recruitment officer. This scene appeared in the film's Super Bowl trailer in February 2018, but was cut when Ron Howard took over directing duties after Lord and Miller quit. In the final film, the recruitment hologram is not projected by the droid, and Ron Howard's wife Cheryl makes a cameo standing in front of the droid while Han watches the hologram. The R5-PHT droid also features on page 37 of "Solo A Star Wars Story The Official Guide".
The droid comprises a plywood frame and legs with aluminium skins and feet. The dome is made of styrene with resin details; it is a replica of the one used in the film, built to the same specifications and with the same paint. Because of its original role in the film, the droid features a holoprojector on its dome, and was the first R5 unit to use one.
The droid is accompanied by two remote controls, one for the droid's movement, and one for the holoprojector. The lot also includes two mains charging cables; a sheet from the day of filming; a Star Wars: Droid Factory toy set which features R5-PHT; and two collectable cards, both of which feature the droid (one also includes a Stormtrooper patch).
