An outstanding hand-painted production cel featuring the entire Simpson family, Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa, and Maggie, from the Season 2 episode "Old Money" first aired March 28, 1991. The composition captures the family comically crammed into their purple 1986 Plymouth Junkerolla, their expressions perfectly conveying the typical warmth, wit, and chaos that define The Simpsons.
This hand-painted 12-field cel, is paired with a colour reproduction background studio printed for presentation and bears the official 20th Century Fox gold seal in the lower right corner. It is accompanied by its original Simpsons certificate of authenticity, which is signed by Dan Castellaneta, the Emmy Award-winning voice of Homer Simpson, and further autographed by Yeardley Smith on the actual cel, the beloved voice of Lisa Simpson. Both signatures were obtained at a London gallery event in the early 1990s.
From the early era (pre season 13) when each cel was individually hand-inked and painted, this setup represents a rare snapshot of animation history. The Simpsons debuted in 1989 and quickly became a cultural phenomenon, transforming television with its intelligent humour and emotional storytelling. Now the longest-running scripted show in U.S. history, its influence spans generations.
Cels depicting all five family members are among the most desirable from the series, and examples autographed by original cast members are exceptionally scarce. The combination of complete family composition, impeccable expressions, and dual voice actor signatures makes this an extraordinary centrepiece for any animation or pop culture collection.
Original production cels from The Simpsons' early seasons are now increasingly difficult to obtain, as Fox's transition to digital animation in the early 2000s ended the era of hand-painted artwork. Dual-signed examples of this calibre are virtually unseen on the open market. Dimensions: 46.5 cm x 38 cm (18.25" x 15")
