An extraordinary presentation of two multi-cel production setups from The Simpsons' first season, featuring Homer and Marge Simpson from the legendary "shock therapy" sequence in "There's No Disgrace Like Home" which first aired on January 28, 1990.
This unforgettable scene sees the Simpson family undergoing Dr. Marvin Monroe's experimental group therapy, culminating in Homer and Marge frantically electrocuting one another in a rapid-fire display of comedic escalation. It's one of the earliest and most quoted gags in the series, perfectly encapsulating the absurdity and brilliance that propelled The Simpsons to global success.
Each cel bears the official 20th Century Fox seal, and the right-hand cel is autographed and inscribed by Dan Castellaneta, the Emmy Award-winning voice of Homer Simpson: "D'oh! Homer Simpson." Castellaneta autographs on authentic production artwork are extremely scarce, particularly from the early 1990s hand-painted era. This piece was autographed in person at a London appearance by Castellaneta in the early 1990s, providing exceptional provenance and traceability.
Season 1 production artwork is among the most coveted of all Simpsons material, as the majority was retained by the studio or archived. To find a complete dual-panel setup from a single sequence, capturing both halves of one of the most iconic gags in television animation, is exceptionally rare.
A museum-grade artefact from the dawn of The Simpsons, showcasing its pioneering animation, irreverent humour, and the artistry of hand-painted television production, autographed by the man who brought Homer's voice (and "D'oh!") to life. Dimensions (mounted): 79 cm x 39.5 cm (31" x 15.5")
