An original production cel setup featuring Bart Simpson and Santa's Little Helper from the episode "Dog of Death" (Season 3, Episode 19).
In this fan-favourite episode, Santa's Little Helper falls ill and needs expensive surgery. After a series of sacrifices to fund the operation, including giving up beer, meat, and cable TV, the family becomes resentful. Santa's Little Helper runs away, eventually being adopted and trained by Mr. Burns as one of his vicious hounds.
In this climactic moment depicted in this artwork, the now-feral Santa's Little Helper corners Bart until he hears, "I love you boy!" and a flood of loving memories restores the dog's true nature and turns on Mr Burn's Hounds. It's a brilliant balance of satire and sincerity, showcasing the emotional core that made this era of The Simpsons so revered.
This is a key setup, comprising hand-painted production cels and the original hand-painted background, but created on celluloid, not paper, as was standard practice during The Simpsons' golden era (Seasons 1-13). The background is rich with that bold, vibrant colour palette unique to The Simpsons. It is also signed by Nancy Cartwright, the voice of Bart Simpson, who has inscribed it with "Feet don't fail me now!"
This production setup was never part of the official art programme, making its appearance here all the more exciting. However, it was released through the studio and carries the original 20th Century Fox seal. Dimensions: 27 cm x 32 cm (10.5" x 12.5")
