A Saiga-12 shotgun used in the 2002 Eddie Murphy and Robert DeNiro action comedy Showtime. Modified Saiga-12 compact shotguns are seen throughout the film as Caesar Vargas (Pedro Damian) and his henchmen this weapon during their violent crime spree.
Produced for Showtime by well-known gunsmiths Larry Zanoff and Jim Boland, this prop shotgun is a heavy version made from metal and wood. The grip and barrel each have wood components attached while the rest of the gun is produced from milled aluminum. Produced with close attention to detail, the barrel of this shotgun has a fold-down function to make it compact and a red dot sight is attached to the rail. The only non-metal component of this prop weapon is the magazine, which is produced from resin and painted to appear metal. Though this particular gun was not used in the series, its live fire counterpart was later reused in the popular science fiction series Firefly. Showing signs of wear from production use and storage, this piece is in overall good condition.
