An animatronic Billy Puppet with a remote from Darren Lynn Bousman's Saw III. Billy the Puppet first appeared to victim Troy (J. Larose) and Detective Allison Kerry (Dina Meyer) to explain their traps before they met their grisly ends, despite their playing Amanda Young's (Shawnee Smith) game. Later, grief-stricken father Jeff (Angus Macfadyen) encountered Billy in the hallway of a meatpacking plant before he discovered the room holding Judge Halden (Barry Flatman), the man who let his son's killer off with a lenient sentence. In flashback sequences, it was revealed that John "Jigsaw" Kramer (Tobin Bell) had constructed Billy for Amanda, whom he hoped would succeed him in his legacy.
Billy the Puppet was introduced in James Wan's short film Saw, also known as Saw 0.5, the short film that Wan and writer-star Leigh Whannell used to raise funding for the first Saw feature. A testament to Wan and Whannel's DIY filmmaking style, the first Billy was completely static, with paper towels for eyes and fishing line used to puppet his movements. In the years since, Billy has appeared in 10 of the Saw films, becoming among the most recognizable symbols in modern horror and the face of the blockbuster franchise.
For Saw II, Billy was redesigned from the original static puppet to add new mechanical features, such as a moving jaw and eyes operated via remote control. After filming concluded, production created a new puppet in the event that the Billy puppet being used to film Saw III was lost or damaged during production. The Saw III prop crew was given the original Saw II puppet, and recreated it with some improvements, such as a foam body, plates to hold the puppet together, magnets to attach him to his signature tricycle, and a removable panel on the back of his head to provide better access to the animatronic pieces.
This animatronic puppet originates directly from the personal collection of franchise stalwart Bousman, who directed three other Saw films in addition to Saw III, more than any other filmmaker. It features an internal motor inside the head and a metal and foam body, as well as a Skysport SS3 remote control designed to direct eye movements (left and right) and mouth movements (up and down) with the right stick after batteries are inserted into the power pack inside the puppet. The puppet exhibits frayed synthetic hair fibers. Dimensions: 40" x 17" x 7" (101.75 cm x 43.25 cm x 18 cm)
Additional Provenance: Letter of Authenticity from Bousman with wax seal.
Contains electronic and mechanical components; see notice in the Buyer's Guide.
Estimate: $30,000 - 60,000
