A collection of production paperwork from Steven Spielberg’s 1999 Oscar®-winning World War II epic Saving Private Ryan.
Just after D-Day in World War II, a company of men led by Captain Miller (Tom Hanks) are tasked with finding Private Ryan (Matt Damon), whose three brothers have been killed in combat and now must be sent home.
The set includes memoranda to crew, a laminated parking permit for a construction vehicle, a contract for working on the film, and call sheets for a day of shooting (including risk assessments and travel plans for the actors). The call sheet is particularly exciting as it is for the climactic battle in Ramelle where Captain Miller meets his end. There are also six invites to a cast and crew screening of the film at the Empire in Leicester Square.
The papers show some sign of wear from use on the production and from storage, with some creasing and fold lines on the pages. Personal addresses have also been removed from paperwork to protect individuals’ privacy. Despite this the pieces remain in a good condition.
