Production design-style artwork entitled "Street and Bridge" hand-painted by Phil Shearer for the 71st Academy Awards® ceremony. This artwork was commissioned by renowned production designer Thomas E. Sanders to be displayed onscreen during the ceremony in 1998, as Sanders was nominated that year for his work on Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan alongside set decorator Lisa Dean for Best Art Direction-Set Decoration.
This artwork originates from Shearer's personal archives. Designed by the artist to simulate the style of work created by Sanders for Spielberg's film, the painting depicts the bridge at Ramelle, upon which Captain John H. Miller (Tom Hanks) and the 2nd Ranger Battalion made their climactic final stand against encroaching German troops during their rescue of Private James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon).
The artwork is rendered in mixed media on board-backed paper, labeled "Paramount Pictures" and "Street and Bridge," dated "97," and signed on front by both Shearer and Sanders. The reverse is also inscribed with an explanatory note by Shearer. The paper exhibits some staining on the reverse. Dimensions: 59.5 cm x 30.5 cm (23.5" x 12")
Sold without copyright; see copyright notice in the Terms and Conditions.
Estimate: £2,000 - 4,000 Ω
