Two US soldiers' assault vests from Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan. US soldiers wore distinctive pocketed vests over their standard combat uniforms during both the invasion of Normandy and on the mission to retrieve Private James Francis Ryan (Matt Damon).
Saving Private Ryan won five Academy Awards® out of 11 nominations and has been critically acclaimed as one of the greatest films ever made, with its iconic battle sequences cited as a major influence on subsequent war and action films. The film was widely recognized in particular for its craftwork, with two-time Academy Award®-nominated costume designer and longtime Spielberg collaborator Joanna Johnston's exacting and highly accurate period work earning a nomination for Best Costume Design at the Awards Circuit Community Awards®.
Based directly on real-world Harian vests worn by American soldiers on D-Day, these green cotton vests feature many pockets, straps, and eyelets throughout as well as piping (dark brown in one case and light brown in the other) along the edges. They exhibit some signs of wear from use and age, including some small areas of discoloration.
Estimate: $800 - 1,600
