A collection of racing car components used in the production of Ron Howard’s 2013 sports-drama, Rush. Based on a true story, the film follows racing icons Niki Lauda (Daniel Brühl) and James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) during their infamous 1976 Formula One season. As their rivalry on and off the track begins to take its toll, a near-fatal injury leaves Lauda fighting for the championship and Hunt in pole position to take the title.

This is a set of full size Formula One Ligier race car shell components belonging to driver Jacque Laffite, seen most notably during the Italian Grand Prix. The chassis were adapted to enable a number of different shells to be fitted, which allowed the main racer’s cars to be called into existence without the need for a full complement of cars. Only nine ‘movie copies’ were made for the movie; the rest were actually real vintage race cars from the era loaned to the production. The panels are made from fibreglass and metal painted white with blue lines with the number 26 and embellished with the Ligier Gitanes insignia and “J. Laffite” along either side of the cockpit body. Wing mirrors are located on the cockpit, with black masking tape securing the hinges. Each component remains in good condition with wear from production use and storage. There are 5 components in total: cockpit cover, front wing, side pod (left and right) and high air intake which was present before the low intake was used, with the largest component measuring approximately 210 x 66 x 90cm (82.75 x 26 x 35.5”.)
