A hand-painted cityscape matte painting from Irvin Kershner’s futuristic sci-fi film Robocop 2. Matte paintings were used to provide backgrounds that expanded the scope of various shots. This painting by artist Mark Sullivan is seen as Robocop and Cain hang off the edge of the Civic Center rooftop. Phil Tippett is credited as an Associate Producer and for animation sequences on this title.

This hand-painted cityscape of the Detroit night skyline is painted on a foam-core board and bordered with strips of black tape. The image depicts a cluster of buildings at the foreground and the waning flood of distant lights along the horizon. Several numbers and arrows are marked on the bottom and top margins as reference points to be used during production.

The piece shows wear from production with an angular slit cut in the left side to add an animated effect of moving cars, as well as dents and scratches due to age but the lot remains in overall good condition. Dimensions: 55” x 48” x 5” (140 cm x 122 cm x 13 cm)
