Azeem's (Morgan Freeman) Scimitar and Scabbard from Kevin Reynolds' 1991 film, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves! In the film, Robin of Locksley (Kevin Costner) returns to England after fighting in the Crusades, only to discover that his father has been murdered and the land has turned to turmoil under the corrupt Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). Joined by Moorish bodyguard Azeem, Robin leads the poor in an uprising against the Sheriff and his men.
This scimitar is acquired by Azeem early in the film when he escapes from captivity in Jerusalem, and can be seen carried by Robin's trusted friend throughout the rest of the film. Made primarily of metal, this scimitar features a long curved blade with a simple decorative etching. Both sides of the blade have been textured with stage blood by production, indicating that this sword was used in combat sequences. The blade connects to the hilt with a rounded guard that features numerous studs. The hilt has been wrapped in leather strips and connects to the pommel, which is also rounded and decorated with a single leather strip. The pommel has been modified by production to have one side shaved down, making this piece easier and more comfortable for Morgan Freeman to carry and handle (see photos).
Included with the sword is Azeem's scabbard, which is made from leather with metallic components. The scabbard has beautiful hand painted decorations on both sides, and includes a metal frame at the tip or drag. One side of the scabbard is open, allowing for the scimitar to easily slide in, and includes a pair of metal rings so that it may be fastened to clothing.
This item measures approximately 4" x 9.5" x 40" (10cm x 24cm x 102cm) and features minor wear from production use and age, however it remains in overall very good condition.
