Robin Hood's (Kevin Costner) screen-matched cloak from Kevin Reynolds' Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. Robin of Locksley wore his unique patchwork cloak - a remnant of his days as a prisoner in an Ayyubid jail - when he and his companion Azeem Edin Bashir Al Bakir (Morgan Freeman) arrived on the shores of England in order for Robin to pay his life debt to Peter Dubois (Liam Halligan) by protecting Lady Marian (Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio).
Multiple distinctive pulled threads, as well as a hole in one side of this cloak, screen-match to several shots from Robin's first encounter with Guy of Gisbourne (Michael Wincott), the vicious cousin of the Sheriff of Nottingham (Alan Rickman). The sequence concludes with Robin selflessly gifting his cloak to Duncan (Will Sparrow) - whom Gisbourne blinded and in whose care the cloak remained for the rest of the film - as a demonstration of Robin's unshakeable principles and loyalty.
Prince of Thieves was among the greatest success stories of 1991, reaching No. 2 at the global box office and earning Academy Award®, Grammy®, and BAFTA® nominations the following year. In addition to wearing it in the film, Robin also appeared with his signature cloak throughout the promotional campaign, including in posters and the popular teaser trailer.
This hand-woven patchwork cloak originates from Angels Costumers. It features a detachable hood secured to the cloak via fastening strips and nylon string ties at the front. The cloak is intentionally distressed throughout with loose and fraying threads, as well as patchwork holes along the bottom.
