A framed clapperboard from the 1985 fantasy adventure sequel Return To Oz. Driven to melancholy by her memories of the magical land of Oz, Dorothy (Fairuza Balk) is taken for treatment by the terrifying Dr Worley (Nicol Williamson). However, when a lightning strike blacks out the hospital, a bizarre turn of events sees Dorothy return to Oz. Can Dorothy save the kingdom and restore the Emerald City to its former glory?
One of the most iconic and memorable aspects of the movie making industry has to be the clapperboard. For decades this has been a vital piece of equipment that enables not just sound and image to be synchronised, but to also advise the viewer of the raw footage the exact details of the upcoming shot. The simple monochromatic device has become a symbolic image synonymous with films, and is still used to this day.

This original production-used insert clapperboard still clearly reads “Oz”, written in silver ink, with the Second Unit Director “Jimmy Devis” written onto the board’s face below. “Oz 41” is written on a black strip along the board’s stripes. The date is for the 25th of May 1984, with additional notes highlighting the fact it was last used for a daytime interior shot. The clapstick is stiff but remains firmly attached, and remains in good working order with a sharp snap when closed.

Well used on the production, this board remains in an overall good production-used condition and comes presented in a bespoke frame featuring an intricately laser-cut mount board with the film’s poster artwork and an opening front panel allowing easy access to the piece.
