A clapperboard from the production of Alan Bridges’ 1982 drama The Return of the Soldier.
Captain Chris Baldry (Alan Bates) returns from WWI shell-shocked and suffering from amnesia. He does not recognise his wife Kitty (Julie Christie) and demands to see his former lover Margaret (Glenda Jackson), rocking Kitty’s world.
This clapperboard and others like it were made for the production and would have been used to help denote the beginning of takes, as well as help the editors marry up the picture and sound. The clapperboard is made of wood with a metal hinge. It features the production title printed on the front and sections where the slate and take numbers could have been written in chalk. On the back is a metal wire. Due to the small size of the clapperboard it would have been predominantly used for close-up shots.
The clapperboard has some wear from production use and age, including some scuffing and scratches, as well as rusting around the metal. Overall it remains in an excellent production-used condition.
Materials: Wood, Ferrous Metals.
