A remarkable original production cel of Ren and Stimpy from "Robin Höek," the episode that helped announce, in the very first season, exactly what kind of show this was going to be.

The premise is gloriously unhinged: Stimpy narrates a twisted bedtime storybook take on Robin Hood, and a sleeping Ren dreams himself into the role of Robin Höek, heroic outlaw of Logwood Forest. The cel catches both characters mid-action in that forest setting, full-figure and airborne, the kind of kinetic two-character setup that Spümcø, John Kricfalusi's studio, built its reputation on. There is a wild physical energy to the drawing that is absolutely right for the show: loose, fast, committed, and slightly deranged in the best possible way.

Ren and Stimpy landed in 1991 and genuinely unsettled the Saturday morning landscape. The anarchic humour, the rubbery gross-out physicality, the refusal to condescend, it hit kids and, perhaps even more so, older viewers who recognised something sharp underneath the chaos. "Robin Höek" aired on 25 August 1991 and was the first episode animated by Bon-Art, making this cel part of an early chapter in the show's production history.

The cel is 12-field, hand-painted on acetate over a printed presentation background, bottom peg holes, and carries the official gold-embossed Nickelodeon Studio Art Programme Seal in the lower right. Condition is excellent throughout, well preserved from a private collection.

Ren and Stimpy built a vast and devoted following, and its anarchic zaininess left a genuine mark on popular culture. For fans of a certain age, the show never really left them, and the nostalgia surrounding it runs deep.
