A superb paired lot of original Spümcø production cels from The Ren & Stimpy Show, offering two of the series' leads across two landmark episodes: Ren alone on a key master production background from season four, and Stimpy alone on a second key master hand-painted background from one of the show's earliest and most celebrated instalments.

The first cel places Ren in full figure, from the season four episode "A Friend in Your Face!", in which a parasitic creature named Sheldon takes up residence inside Ren's ear and proceeds to build an entire trailer park city inside his head. It is, even by this show's standards, magnificently deranged. This cel carries production code RS-324 and bears the official Studio Art Programme seal.

The second cel features Stimpy, and comes from "Space Madness", production code RS02A. Cadet Stimpy is on a mission to explore the cosmos. When Commander Höek begins to display symptoms of space madness, Stimpy attempts to calm his sickened Commander while maintaining his loyalty to his command, though it does not last long. Close to the end of the episode, Höek asks Stimpy to guard the History Eraser button and never to touch it, warning that doing so will remove him from existence. Thanks to the narrator, Stimpy eventually does just that.

Spümcø produced the series from its 1991 debut under John Kricfalusi, and everything that made the show so bracingly strange, the close-up grotesqueries, the deadpan hysteria, the sheer unhinged commitment to a joke, was baked in from the beginning. That energy is right here in these cel setups. Both are 12-field, bottom peg holes, presented framed, with condition throughout excellent.

Both setups feature large characters against the original hand-painted backgrounds, and this kind of Spümcø-era material is genuinely hard to find at this quality. For a generation that grew up watching Saturday morning television and found their way to this extraordinary, chaotic little programme, the nostalgia runs deep. Original Spümcø-era material with this provenance and condition does not require much of a pitch to the right collector.
