Kryten’s (Robert Llewellyn) Time Drive from the cult British comedy television series Red Dwarf. This awesome light up prop was used in the series seven episode Tikka To Ride, after Starbug’s entire stock of curry is jettisoned into space and a distraught Lister (Craig Charles) comes up with the rather questionable plan of using this futuristic device to take them back to earth and pick up 500 Vindaloos.
Seen throughout the episode to transport the crew through time to different points during the JKF assassination, the chunky device is made from resin and shaped similar to a gun with a white handle and black tubular body that ends in a giant plasma ball to make it that little bit more sci-fi. The shell has raised lines running along the body and several circular ‘vents’ bolted on and another at the top labelled “Plasvent, Do Not Cover”. As well as the plasma ball operated by a switch underneath, the drive also has a row of red lights above the handle activated by a small push button below, and a set of white static ‘buttons’ that also light up in the same fashion as the plasma ball.
It has suffered some minor scuffs through storage and use throughout the episode, but is still a great piece from the episode that has had a lot of time and effort put into its design and construction. Measures approximately 34cm x 21cm (13.5” x 8.25”).
