John Rambo's (Sylvester Stallone) compound bow from Peter MacDonald's Rambo III. Rambo used his signature bow throughout the film, including when he attached glowsticks to arrows to shoot the Russians searching for him in a dark cave, and when he climbed to the top of a mountain and shot down an enemy helicopter.
Depicting fictional events during the Soviet-Afghan War, Rambo III pushed to be an even bigger action movie than its predecessors and, at the time of its release, was the most expensive film ever made. Rambo films, particularly the third film, tapped into Cold War anxieties and turned the bow-wielding Rambo into a symbol of lone-wolf justice and American resilience. "Rambo" became a household name and shorthand for any tough, unstoppable warrior; it remains one of the most iconic action figures in cinema history.
Originating as a gift from a producer on Rambo III to Hester Hargett, who produced a number of other Stallone films and wrote the included Letter of Authenticity for this bow, this black Hoyt ProVantage compound bow features fiberglass limbs, metal components, and Omega wheels. It was modified for filming with heavy-gauge wiring around the cams to prevent it from being fully drawn. The bow was also outfitted with accessories for the film that were removed at some point following production. It exhibits chipped paint and mild discoloration from production use and age. Dimensions: 45.5" x 15" x 1.5" (115.75 cm x 38.25 cm x 4 cm)
Additional Provenance: Letter of Authenticity from Hester Hargett.
Estimate: $12,000 - 24,000
