A boxing glove crew gift designed by Robert De Niro and De Niro's original concept sketch from the production of Martin Scorsese's boxing drama Raging Bull.
This lot comprises a sterling silver boxing glove, upon which "Thanks, Marty and Bob" and "Raging Bull, 4-16-79-?" are etched, and De Niro's original rough concept sketch, hand-drawn in pencil. The lot is accompanied by contemporaneous letters from Shawn Slovo, De Niro's assistant at the time of filming, regarding the design, price and quantity of the crew gifts; a photo of a keychain with boxing gloves and a photocopied boxing equipment catalogue, both of which are referenced in Slovo's original letters, and provided inspiration for the design; a black-and-white promotional image of De Niro as Jake LaMotta; and more correspondence in 1996 between a collector and an assistant at TriBeCa Productions, confirming the authenticity of the drawing.
Part of the engraving on the back of the charm has worn away, and the charm is slightly tarnished. Dimensions (boxing glove gift): 3.5 cm x 2 cm x 2.5 cm (1.25" x 0.75" x 1")
