Eugene Tackleberry’s (David Graf) police uniform from Hugh Wilson’s 1984 comedy Police Academy.

When a ragtag group of well-meaning but clueless cadets joins the police academy, their strict instructors are put through their paces guiding the new recruits toward becoming good cops.

Trigger-happy Tackleberry wore his uniform in several scenes throughout the film, memorably during the moving target practice sequence where he took matters into his own hands. The marks and dirt on this uniform relate to his antics as he broke through doorways and rolled across car bonnets.

The uniform consists of a navy blue long-sleeved dress shirt and heavy trousers.

Made from a blend of polyester and rayon, the shirt features the film’s police academy crest embroidered onto its left sleeve. The circular patch reads ‘Metropolitan Police’ and ‘Integrity, Knowledge, Courage’ around the ‘To Serve and Protect’ cross emblem. Two breast pockets fasten with metal buttons featuring a ‘P’ design – fastening holes for a police badge can be seen above the left pocket. Inside, the shirt is hand-labelled ‘David G’ with other fitting information.

The trousers are made from heavy synthetic material and feature a white stripe down the side of each leg - zippered portions at the base of each leg allow easy removal. They close with a zip, hook and Velcro®, and are hand labelled ‘David Graf’ on the inside waistband. This style of trousers differs from those seen in the final production.

Each piece features dirt marks and frayed sections from heavy use during production, but remain in overall good condition. The uniform is a highly collectible piece of classic 80s comedy.
