A Fruit Vendor's (Chet Zar) neck and cowl orangutan appliance from Tim Burton's sci-fi action adventure Planet of the Apes. When astronaut Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) was transported to a planet inhabited by an intelligent ape-like race, human trader Limbo (Paul Giamatti) took possession of him.
Chet Zar's appearance is fleeting in the film, as he can only be seen in a long-distance crane shot as the human captives are transported through the city en route to be processed. Created by Rick Baker's Cinovation Studios. This appliance consists of a brown foam latex orangutan-inspired cowl appliance which covers the wearer's head and neck to the shoulders. It is affixed throughout with hand-punched orange hair and textured simian details on the sides of the face. Of further note, this item is the only one of its type made for the film, sculpted by orangutan Jim McPherson, worn by Matt Rose in a test fitting, and worn solely by Chet Zar during filming. It is mounted to a white fiberglass display head (marked for Eddie Murphy) and exhibits some cracking throughout due to age. Piece remains in overall good, production used condition.
