An orangutan costume made for the 1968 Science Fiction classic, Planet of the Apes. Costumes such as this can be seen worn by background orangutans throughout the film as George Taylor (Charlton Heston) crashes on a planet that is, unbeknownst to him, in the future where apes rule.
Closing at the front via a hidden zipper, the orange tunic features leather detailing which produces the appearance of a vest. A Western Costume tag is present inside the tunic and is labeled with "2776-1" and "39". The costume is completed with a pair of matching orange pants which also feature internal markings from Western Costume. The shoes are modified pairs of Sears Sleeper slippers and are covered with matching orange fabric to appear as boots. Notably, the sole is custom-shaped to appear as made for ape feet.
This costume shows signs of wear from age such as fading overall and deterioration to the bottom of the shoes. However, the set remains in overall good condition.
