This insert is from the classic original version of Pierre Boulle's novel. It is rolled and has two pinholes, general border wear, and sporadic creases, primarily along the bottom credits area. Additionally, there are three edge tears and some areas of light staining, including two minor stains in the orange field.

Experienced actor Roddy McDowall advised his fellow makeup-wearers to incorporate tics, blinks, and other facial gestures to make their appearances more lifelike and avoid looking "mask-like." McDowall reportedly enjoyed playing pranks in his makeup, once driving home in full prosthetics and startling other drivers. While working on the "Planet of the Apes" (1974) television series, he surprised Carol Burnett by appearing on "The Jackson Five and Roddy McDowall" (1974) in full Galen makeup during her taping.
