Elizabeth Swann's (Keira Knightley) undergarments from Gore Verbinski's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl. Swann wore her combination and petticoat concealed under the oppressive, elaborate ensembles she was forced into by her father, Governor Weatherby Swann (Jonathan Pryce) - a fact that nearly killed her when she suffocated on Port Royal. These undergarments are ultimately unseen in the film's final cut.
While the Swanns arrived in Jamaica amidst the so-called Georgian Era, Swann's combination and petticoat are considered Victorian in style, an anachronism largely concealed by being worn as unseen undergarments. Both were designed by renowned costumier Penny Rose, who received a BAFTA® nomination for Best Costume Designer for her work.
This set consists of a lace cotton sleeveless combination, so named for combining a chemise and drawers into one unit, with hook-and-eye closures on the reverse; a matching lace-up pleated petticoat; and matching sheer knee-length pantaloons hand-marked "Kiera Knightly" [sic] on the interior. The undergarments exhibit staining and yellowing from production wear and age.
