Jack Sparrow's (Johnny Depp) complete pirate costume display from Gore Verbinski's adventure fantasy Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End. Jack Sparrow wore his costume throughout the production, from his time trapped in the land of the dead to the final sea battle against Cutler Beckett (Tom Hollander) and Davy Jones (Bill Nighy).
Jack's costume was designed by the Oscar® winner Penny Rose. Depp and Rose decided that Jack had been with many women in his time, some rich, some widowed and some whose husbands were far away. So now and then, Jack would help himself to a souvenir of their illicit encounter. Depp based his performance on rock legend Keith Richards who ultimately appears as Captain Teague, Jack's estranged father. These little details, down to the last thread, are what make Captain Jack Sparrow the epitome of piracy.
The costume consists of: Sparrow's iconic leather tricorn hat with a faded handwritten label reading "Stand in" and a bolder handwritten label reading "Jack"; a dark grey cotton coat with faux button holes, metal buttons and a handwritten label reading "#3"; a royal blue cotton waistcoat with decorative metal buttons and a handwritten label reading "Jack Wet"; a cream cotton shirt with a handwritten label reading "Jack harness"; a pair of brown trousers with decorative metal buttons and a handwritten label reading "Jack"; a pair of light brown leather boots with wooden heels and crossed out handwritten labels reading "Brigg"; a dark brown leather belt with and ornate metal buckle with dangling red fox and fisher weasel paw pelts; a light brown leather belt and large ornate metal belt buckle with a dangling snake vertebrate, mermaid charm and dried chicken's foot; a dark brown leather baldric sword belt with an ornate metal buckle; a red and white cotton waist wrap; a rose-coloured bandana which sits atop a replica wig with hair charms and dreadlocks; a black woven wrist wrap and fingerless brown leather glove; a replica metal sword with a Disney® copyright engraving and a replica flintlock pistol.
Presented on a bespoke display and base, the costume shows minimal signs of wear from production use. The right boot features a hole in the heel so that the mannequin can be balanced. All pieces have been intentionally distressed for the production, such as torn buttonholes on the waistcoat, worn fabric on the shoulders and cuffs of the coat, a missing tassel on the shirt, worn leather on the belts and overall discolouration of the materials. Dimensions (display): 183 cm x 89 cm x 50 cm (72” x 35” x 19 ¾”)
