“Behind every captain, there's a crew. Sure, some of you are as ugly as a sea cucumber, some of you are closer to being a chair or coat rack than a pirate, and some of you are fish I've just dressed up in a hat...”
An original production-used Royal Society backstage prompt desk and stool from Peter Lord’s 2012 animated adventure comedy Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists!
Accompanied by his ragtag crew, an enthusiastic pirate captain (Hugh Grant) sails the high seas and dreams of besting his bitter rivals, Black Bellamy (Jeremy Piven) and Cutlass Liz (Salma Hayek), in a quest to win the coveted title of Pirate of the Year. The captain's quest takes him and his comrades from the exotic shores of Blood Island to Victorian London's foggy streets. Along the way, they battle a clever queen (Imelda Staunton) and join forces with a young scientist named Charles Darwin (David Tennant).
This backstage prompt desk and stool is from the Royal Society and features when the Pirate Captain unveils Polly the Parrot (dodo) in front of an astonished audience at the Scientist of the Year award. Backstage, Charles Darwin’s monkey butler is providing an atmospheric accompaniment on the drums, and behind him is the prompt desk and stool. These two pieces are made of resin and painted to look like wood with metallic dials on it. It has minor wear from production use, including some scratches and scuffs, but is in an otherwise excellent condition.
Materials: Resin.
