An original stop motion puppet Diablo Dan, from Peter Lord and Jeff Newitt’s animated adventure ‘The Pirates! In An Adventure With Scientists’ from Aardman and Sony Pictures Animation.

The not very successful terror of the High Seas; Pirate Captain (Hugh Grant) together with a rag-tag crew at his side has one dream: to win the much-coveted Pirate Of The Year Award. It's a quest that takes the pirates from the shores of exotic Blood Island to the foggy streets of Victorian London. Along the way they do battle with the pirate-hating Queen Victoria (Imelda Staunton) and team up with a young Charles Darwin (David Tennant), but never lose sight of what a pirate loves best: adventure!

Diablo Dan can be seen in ‘The Barnacles Face’ on Blood Island, cheering each of the pirates as they enter the tavern. His clothing is made from foam latex, except for his wristbands and headscarf which are silicone and his tiny resin skull earrings. Dan’s skin is also silicone, and his head is made from resin. There is a small amount of plasticine around his eyes. He features a removable mouthpiece made from ‘Rapid Prototyped’ resin which would have been alternated during filming. Diablo Dan can be posed via an intricate internal steel armature and remains in fantastic production used condition.

He is presented here on a bespoke faux-driftwood display stand and measures approximately 35.5cm (14”) in height, with the stand measuring approximately 15.5x14.5cm (6.25x5.75”) around the base.
