An outstanding two-piece set from Pink Floyd's The Wall (1982), comprising an imposing original hand-painted production cel setup of the Marching Hammer and an original production drawing of the Marching Hammers.
The single Hammer cel setup features two layers, a detailed ink-line cel and a block-colour cel, creating depth and definition for the iconic, towering Hammer. It is paired with a panoramic cloud presentation background that captures the oppressive mood of Gerald Scarfe's animation direction. The piece bears the Pink Floyd Art Program seal and comes complete with its official studio certificate of authenticity.
The accompanying original production drawing, rendered in graphite on animation paper, depicts the iconic "Hammers Marching", one of the most enduring and symbolically charged images in modern animation. The converging perspective, designed to heighten the sense of scale and uniformity, exemplifies Scarfe's striking visual language: surreal, satirical, and unmistakably his own.
Only around ten minutes of animation were created for The Wall, each scene crafted under Scarfe's supervision in the UK by a small specialist team. Many years after the film's release, the studio carefully sorted and catalogued the surviving artwork for the official art programme, offering collectors worldwide the rare opportunity to acquire authentic production material. With the "Hammers Marching" sequence lasting mere seconds on screen, very few pieces were produced or released, making any original cel or drawing from this scene exceptionally scarce and highly sought after.
The Marching Hammers remain one of the most powerful visual symbols in music and film history, representing the loss of individuality, militarisation, and the machinery of control. These images transcended their cinematic origin to become a cultural emblem, instantly recognisable and deeply tied to Pink Floyd's legacy of political and psychological commentary.
A rare and complete pairing, cel setup and production drawing, from one of The Wall's most important moments. Together they encapsulate Scarfe's unmatched blend of artistry and provocation, offering collectors a genuine piece of animation and rock history. Dimensions: 70 cm x 43 cm (27.5" x 17")
