A Phantom mask used on stage by Michael Crawford during the 1980s original production of the world-renowned musical, The Phantom of the Opera. Andrew Lloyd Webber's masterpiece launched the international careers of Michael Crawford and his co-star, Sarah Brightman.

The mask is resin with a leather inner lining. Two metal wires are attached to its rear to create the illusory effect of it remaining on the wearer's face despite no support.

The script is one of the production's originals, dated "13.8.86", and comprises an act one of 58 pages and an act two of 48. "Justin Church" is handwritten on the script's cover in black ink. Church played Flunky and was also a double for Crawford in the London production of the musical. He also worked as a stagehand and covered for the only male dancer in the show. The lines for the character Monsieur Lefevre are highlighted in yellow on pages 2 to 8. The jacket is woollen with Crawford's full name embroidered on the chest.

The lot comes from the personal collection of Justin Church.

The mask exhibits a crack in the nose, dirt marks, and significant wear to the lining. The script's cover has some tears. Dimensions (mask): 30 cm x 21.5 cm x 1.75 cm (11.75" x 8.5" x 0.75")
