An OBE certificate, "This Is Your Life" book and a collection of effects from Peter Cushing's personal collection.
Peter Cushing had a long and distinguished acting career, stretching from the 1930s through to the 1980s. His most high-profile role was Grand Moff Tarkin in George Lucas' Star Wars: A New Hope, but he received initial recognition for his leading roles in Hammer Productions horror films, appearing in 22 Hammer films and often alongside his close friend Christopher Lee.
This lot comprises Cushing's OBE certificate, dated "29th August 1989"; a personal diary from 1939, the year of his feature film debut, featuring extensive handwritten entries; his "This Is Your Life" book from his appearance on 24th January 1990, which is bound in red leather, contains 27 photographs from the filming of the episode, and is accompanied by various correspondence related to the episode; a large hardback book containing handwritten messages from various friends, colleagues and fans celebrating Cushing's 80th birthday, including a message from Dave Prowse; six scrap books filled with various newspaper and magazine clippings; a framed photograph of Cushing holding a rose; a pair of hairpeices worn by Cushing in several Hammer Horror films (the original catalogue listing attributed them to his role as Van Helsing in Frankenstein, a role he actually played in Dracula); various pieces of personal correspondence; clothing items, including a silk scarf initialled "P.C.", brown leather gloves, linen cap, white gloves, cravat, a pair of ties and six handkerchiefs; a Parker fountain pen; and finally, a brown leather shooting stick seat.
