A full-size Pale Man display figure from Guillermo del Toro's dark fantasy movie Pan's Labyrinth. The Pale Man (Doug Jones) - a grotesque, child-eating monster - chased Ofelia (Ivana Baquero) through his lair after she disobeyed the faun's (also Jones) instruction not to eat the Pale Man's food.
This figure was created by DDT, the Spanish studio behind the make-up and special effects for the film, founded by Academy Award®-winners David Martí and Montse Ribe. This model is a reproduction of the one created at the behest of del Toro for the 2016 exhibition "Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters" and displayed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Del Toro owns the original model from the exhibition.
The figure is constructed from polyester and polyurethane resins around a metal skeleton, with clay pressed pieces from the original production moulds attached. It is finished in sculpting clay and painted with enamels and acrylics.
The model is approximately 20 cm (8") taller than the original made with Doug Jones under prosthetics in the film. Del Toro saw initial photographs of the model in its bent-legged pose and thought it looked short and less impressive, so sections of the body were lengthened specifically for the exhibition. The figure has only very minor wear. Dimensions: 90 cm x 160 cm x 190 cm (35½" x 63" x 74¾")
