Raleigh Becket’s (Charlie Hunnam) Welding Pack from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 mega monster movie Pacific Rim. In the film, a race of monsters, called ‘Kaiju,’ terrorize earth, so humans build a team of massive robots, called ‘Jaegers,’ to battle the monsters and save the world. Near the beginning of the film, Raleigh can be seen using the welding pack as he helps build the Anti-Kaiju Wall in Alaska.

The pack is made of plastic, resin, wood, fabric, and foam core. The materials have been sculpted to form a wood box with two faux tanks made of plastic and painted red. A grate made of PVC pipe painted yellow and black protects the tanks. Rubber tubing, covered in fabric, connects resin gadgetry. A plastic case on top encases a spool of grey rope. This is all mounted on a backpack that features a hard foam backing, and nylon straps and belt, with metal buckles. On the shoulder straps are three lights—red, green, and blue—that can be turned on by a switch, connected by a wire to the lights, that is powered by one 9V battery. None of the electronics can be confirmed to be in working order. The backpack is sticky with fake snow from the set and was distressed with dirt and grime for the production. This piece measures 32” x 22” x 22” (81 cm x 56 cm x 56 cm).
