Raleigh Becket’s (Charlie Hunnam) Hero Drivesuit Helmet from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 mega monster movie Pacific Rim. In the film, a race of monsters, called ‘Kaiju,’ terrorizes earth, forcing mankind to build a team of massive robots, called ‘Jaegers,’ to battle the monsters and save the world. This impressive helmet can be in seen in the beginning of the film, when we first see Raleigh and his brother Yancy (Diego Klattenhoff) put on their drive suits and Raleigh’s mask fills up with Relay Gel, a gold liquid that relays electrical impulses between the two pilots. This SFX helmet can be screen matched as the one used in the final cut, due to sight specific wear on the fiberglass.

The white helmet is made of fiberglass which has been beautifully sculpted into a sleek and futuristic helmet with vents cut into the side and nozzles extending from the back. The helmet features some production made scratches to show the suit’s wear after surviving multiple Kaiju attacks. The face guard is made of two pieces of plastic that feature geometric lines around the outside. The space between these two pieces of plastic has a tube system that extends out the back of the helmet. For the shot, gold liquid was pumped into the mask, and then sucked out to give the impression that the suit was filling with Relay Gel. The ear guards are made of metal with a golden hue. These ear pieces are connected to a series of servos that cause the ear pieces to spin back and forth when controlled by two spinning discs. The lower back portion of the helmet is attached by magnets; it can be pulled back to allow the actor to insert his head into the helmet, and then reattached for a snug fit. LED light strips inside the helmet light up the facemask. These lights are powered by eight AA batteries. The electronics in this helmet cannot be confirmed to be in working condition. This piece measures 14” x 12” x 9” (36 cm x 30 cm x 23 cm).
