A Light-Up Jaeger Battery from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 mega monster movie Pacific Rim. In the film, a race of monsters, called ‘Kaiju,’ terrorizes earth, forcing mankind to build a team of massive robots, called ‘Jaegers,’ to battle the monsters and save the world. Large Jaeger batteries like this can be seen on a cart moving through the Shatterdome, the Jaeger control hub. This large battery is made of dense Styrofoam, sculpted into a hollow cylinder. There is a layer of fiberglass to create the hard exterior, painted varying shades of green. The battery features white decals painted white on its shell that include the PPDC symbol, a series of numbers and letters, and Chinese characters. There are three strips of green lights on the side, and a panel of orange lights near the bottom. The light strips have settings that can be changed to decrease the light bar, thus showing the remaining charge of the battery. The top and bottom caps of the battery can be removed to reveal a hollow interior. Inside are the electronics that control the lights. The electronics require a 12v battery, and additional wiring not supplied with the battery. The battery shows some wear due to production use and storage, but is in overall good condition. The piece measures 21” x 21” x 85” (53 cm x 53 cm x 216 cm).
