Dr. Hermann Gottlieb’s (Burn Gorman) Drift Lot from Guillermo Del Toro’s 2013 mega monster movie Pacific Rim. In the film, a race of monsters, called ‘Kaiju,’ terrorizes earth, forcing mankind to build a team of massive robots, called ‘Jaegers,’ to battle the monsters and save the world. These items were glimpsed in Gottlieb’s flashbacks when he “drifted”, a temporary joining of minds, with Dr. Geiszler (Charlie Day) and a Kaiju. Many of these props are created in a monotone black, white, and grey scheme meant to add to the effects lighting used in filming the complicated drift sequences.

This lot consists of a model plane, child’s helmet, dry eraser, dry erase marker, pencils, and ruler. The plane is a plastic toy with a grey and white camouflage motif and marking labels along the top side. The helmet is hard plastic with a hand painted stripe detail and “Space Champion” decals along the sides. These pieces are seen when young Gottlieb is playing on the floor with his toys. The slide ruler is seen in a later drift flash when a grown Gottlieb is presumably studying. The pencils and marker are all hand painted in drift grey color scheme and were likely used as set dressing for the various drift sequence sets. All pieces show light wear but remain in good condition. The plane toy measures 25” x 15” x 7” ( 64 cm x 38 cm x 18 cm).
