Marketing/Poster Concept Art (5) (21" x 35")
Very Fine- On Illustration Board
Warner Bros., 1983
This year is the 40th Anniversary of Francis Ford Coppola's unforgettable film that launched the early careers of many well-known actors. In celebration, we present this fantastic original 1983 lot which includes two pieces used for the "Photographic Style" one-sheet for the film. One piece is the famous black and white photo (20" X 24"), mounted to an illustration board and masked, and the background is airbrushed. A larger full-color image is identical to that used on the poster with crop lines, etc., marked "Caution: Retouched Art." It is mounted to an illustration board, and the photo measures with borders 23" X 20 and the board 30" X 20." There is a photo mockup measuring 35" X 12.5" with the nine actors' images, each 3.5" X 3.5" glued side by side, all mounted to an illustration board. Included is a large layout of perhaps finished artwork for an entire ad campaign with pasted-in images of the actors, printed blurbs about each, and photo work for the finished piece. It measures 26.5" X 20". There is also a vellum overlay showing the colors to be used. And last is a complete one-sheet mechanical, laid out with all type, credits, and photos for the one-sheet and Pantone swatches.
Overall, the items in this lot are in very clean condition. However, some parts, such as the cover pages, have minor tearing and chipping. The boards all have some corner bumps, smudging, and general signs of use; however, the interior art on the items are in very nice condition.
The first of Francis Ford Coppola's two S.E. Hinton adaptations was released in 1983, both of which starred Matt Dillion (the other was Rumble Fish). This '60s-set gang drama was the first 'Brat Pack' movie, featuring a young male ensemble that included Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Patrick Swayze, Ralph Macchio, and Tom Cruise.
Estimate: $1,500 - 3,000
