Richard Nixon's (Anthony Hopkins) Double Eagle coin watch from Oliver Stone's Nixon. Richard Nixon wore his watch with a $20 gold coin as its face throughout the rise and fall of his presidency. The Double Eagle is a reference to the real-world Nixon's suspension of the gold standard in favor of the American dollar in 1971, which created the so-called Nixon Shock and essentially destroyed the exchange value of the famously collectible Double Eagle coins among other globe-shaking financial changes. Designed by production to replicate the appearance of the coin watches famously made by Corum, this functional watch features a faux gold face engraved "United States of America Twenty" with an eagle emblem and an Apollo black leather strap. This watch was previously displayed at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino Las Vegas, Room 1101. The metal and leather exhibit some scuffing from wear, and a small bit of woven material adhered to the back.
