A Hamunaptra scarab beetle display from Stephen Sommers’ 1999 adventure film The Mummy.

Presented with an ancient puzzle box, librarian Evy (Rachel Weisz) seeks out Foreign Legion adventurer Rick O’Connell (Brendan Fraser) to guide them to the lost city of Hamunaptra. Followed by another group of treasure hunters, they race to the city, not realising the fate of those who attempt to awaken the damned sorcerer Imhotep (Arnold Vosloo) and befall the mummy’s curse.

Pretty and innocent-looking, this scarab formed part of a design inside the temple of Hamunaptra which the warden (Omid Djalili) and later Jonathan (John Hannah) took an ill-informed interest in, plucking it from the wall only to have it spring to life and gruesomely burrow into his skin.

Made from resin, the beetle has been decorated with metallic paints including blue, silver and gold, creating an ancient but valuable look. It is mounted in a custom-made acrylic display case featuring a laser-cut mat board with the film title and a movie still. The case features a wide black frame and can easily be opened for access to the prop.

The scarab has been distressed for production to achieve its ancient look but remains in very good overall condition. The display case is in similarly excellent condition.
