A John Cleese military jacket from Terry Jones' musical comedy Monty Python's The Meaning of Life. Cleese wore an elegant jacket while playing a soldier in the First Anglo-Zulu War, whose comrade's leg was bitten off by a tiger that turned out to be two men in a costume.
The Meaning of Life was the final feature film from the Monty Python troupe and was met with critical acclaim. Even outside of Monty Python, Cleese has enjoyed a celebrated career. This includes co-writing and starring in the iconic British sitcom Fawlty Towers, and co-writing, co-directing and starring in 1988 crime comedy A Fish Called Wanda. The jacket has a costume label sewn to its inside pocket on which Cleese's full name is printed. There is also a handwritten "Lukasz Klimczak" costume label on the inside of the jacket, indicating it has since been used on another production. The garment exhibits missing shoulder buttons and straps.
